Eugenio Cerioli’s Glassworks, L'ARTE NEL VETRO, continues following the long tradition of the old-country glass masters in working stained glass windows.
As we know, the art of stained glass windows, mistakenly defined as “MINOR ART”, enhance and transform the light which go through the building. The greatest use is in the worship, religious and historical places, where the spirituality is the most and where the window fully expresses its beauty collecting this spirituality and making it almost tangible. Eugenio Cerioli’s Glassworks, L'ARTE NEL VETRO, uses the cooperation of various artists and painters for the artistic processing, in order to range in all artistic “fields”
How is a stained glass windows created and achieved?
The process begins with an accurate study of the place, in particular of the arrangement and intensity of the lights. Then you go to try to get the message that the window has to express, with a colored sketch in scale drawn up by the skillful hands of the master artists. Once the sketch is approved by the Client, it is brought to the development stage (by hand) in natural size on cardboard, highlighting both the “cut” of the different stained glass and the division of the frame supporting the window. The following step is the choice of the coloured glass which tradition demands mouth-blown and hand-stretched and then coloured in paste form. Obviously, thanks to our assortment we are able to satisfy every request. After the hand cutting of the glass, there is the painting: to paint, we use very particular opaque and transparent colours that, once baked in our muffle kilns at about 650°C, they perfectly bind with the glass, virtually becoming everlasting. For lead binding we use the best drawn, of various thicknesses, carefully chosen according to the work that is to be carried out. From the binding we proceed to the soldering of the crossings (or junctions) of the leads, that is carried out by draining high quality tin on the lead. In order that the glass and lead form a single and solid body, the windows are joined with natural glues. The final step is the “INSTALLATION AND SETUP”, an operation not less important than the others. Our glassworks, beyond furnishing any type of support frame having even motorized openers, also provides for the setting of the same under any circumstances with all the necessary equipment (scaffolding, ladders, etc..) and in case for the placement of protective glass (shatterproof) or stained glass windows inserted in double glazing |
